Mawlamyine, March (30)

Thaton Township, Two children were shot dead in a clash near the Yangon-Mawlamyine highway, Kamar Sai Village in Thaton Township between the military forces and the KNLA on the morning of March 29, the locals said.

There were clashes between the two sides after the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) coalition forces attacked a 41-vehicle convoy of soldiers driving along the Yangon-Mawlamyine highway.

A passenger bus returning from Thaton was attacked; two children, aged 6 and 8, were shot dead and a 40-year-old man was shot in the abdomen, a local said.

The injured man was taken to Thaton People’s Hospital.

Fighting between the junta forces and KNLA blocked the Yangon-Mawlamyine highway for more than an hour.

The clashes between the military and the KNLA joint troops frequently occurs in Thaton and Bilin townships of KNU Brigade 1 – controlled area.
