Mawlamyine, March (22)
The makeshift camps of internally displaced persons (IDPs), who are taking refuge on the bank of the Thaung Yin River on the Thai-Myanmar border, were destroyed by heavy rain and now they are in need of urgent assistance, the aid workers said.
The current storm, which brought strong winds and heavy rain, destroyed the shelters and inundated the camps on March 20.
There is a shortage of drinking water, and the temporary shelter materials like bamboos and thatch are needed, the rescue team added.
The IDPs suffers from sleepless nights and health problems because of heavy rain, floods, insufficient shelters and inundation in Lay Kay Kaw.
They have been living in the other villages and along the Thaung Yin river on the border for three months.
Many can’t return home and stay still in those camps because of ongoing fighting.
