Mawlamyine, March (15)

Rising general costs, including fuel oil, the price of a 20-liter bottle of pure water will be increased from 500 kyats to 700 kyats starting March 16, the Mawlamyine Water Entrepreneurs Association announced.

“Fuel prices aside, because of rising prices of raw materials used in the production of purified water, the price of purified water has to be raised, said the operator. We have to buy raw materials like plastic. All prices have increased by more than 50%, and we have additional expenses such as oil prices and meter charges. Our cars could not be run by water-power. While oil prices have soared to more than Ks 1000 from Ks 700 last year, the price of water is not that much by percentage,” said one of the operators.

In addition to the 1-liter water bottles, others will be priced higher depending on the cost.

But if fuel prices and general costs drop again, water companies will be negotiating to reduce the price of purified water.
In Mawlamyine, there are at least 10 FDA-approved drinking water companies.
