The first conference of the Mon Unity Party (MUP), a Mon political party, began on March 18 at the Rehmonnya Hotel in Mawlamyine.
At the conference, the rules and regulations of the structure of the party as well as the report submitted by the party’s central committee will be discussed and approved.
At the three-day conference, which will be held from March 18 to 20, members of the party central executive committee, members of the Central Committee, party chairman, vice chairman and the secretariat, will also be elected.
The Mon Unity Party has been criticized for collaborating with the military council after the military coup.
Currently, the Mon Unity Party representatives, Dr. Banyar Aung Moe and Nai Layitama, are members of the military council at the union and state levels.
The Mon Unity Party is an ethnic political party that won 12 seats in the 2020 general election.
More than 100 party members, including top party leaders, resigned as the Mon Unity Party collaborated with the coup junta.
