Mawlamyine, March (16)
The Dawei District Strike Committee has demanded representation at the National Unity Consultative Council (NUCC).
The Dawei District Strike Committee has sent official letters twice to the NUCC asking for representation, but that has not reportedly been recognized.
“This was done to represent and discuss local voices and to participate in the current political crisis and the way forward,” said an official from the Dawei District Strike Committee.
The political prisoners in Dawei Prison also demanded that the Dawei District Strike Committee be allowed to represent the NUCC and urged the strike groups to cooperate with the district strike committee.
In Dawei prison, nearly 1,000 people have been arrested for opposing the military dictatorship. Of those, more than 200 have been sentenced to prison terms.
