Mawlamyine, March (28)

In Phaluu area under the control of KUN Brigade 6, the fighting between the junta and the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) has intensified, according to KNLA members.

Fighting is raging in the Phaluu area between the military council and the KNLA joint force, which has arrived in Wallay to recruit troops since the morning of March 26. During that fighting, the military council continued to use heavy artillery.

Furthermore, heavy fighting has been reported between the military council and the KNLA coalition forces near Sukali Town in the area controlled by KUN Brigade 6.

The residents say the clashes have forced refugees from nearby villages to flee to Thailand.

More than 10,000 people in Kawkareik Township have been displaced by the fighting, which could lead to an increase in the number of IDPs, according to aid workers.

The KNU has instructed people not to use the highway since March 27.
