Loikaw, March (25)
The military council has sentenced Min Oo and Thet Hmu Aung, members of the The Student Union who are helping Karenni IDPs, to three years in prison, the Karenni Students’ Union said.
They were arrested in June last year and sentenced on March 22, nine months later.
“They had been detained for a long time and were sentenced to three years in prison the other day. We know that the military council is heinous but we strongly oppose such sentences,” an official from the Karenni Students’ Union said.
He also said that imprisoning those who helped refugees was atrocious.
Min Oo and Thet Mu Aung were students who took the lead in anti-coup protests and they were arrested in mid-June 2021 while picking up supplies for IDPs.
