Yangon, March (25)
The Airlines announced on March 23 that from April 1, domestic passengers can take flights only if they can show their original registration cards.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Immigration and Population, domestic air passengers over the age of 16 must show their original registration cards at the airport counter and checkpoints, the MNA and MAI Airlines announced.
In the past, domestic airline passengers didn’t need to show their registration cards; they were allowed to travel with a letter of recommendation, a student card, a driver’s license and a passport as well as any other document, Air Thanlwin said.
Starting April 1, the Coup council will no longer allow those who travel with a letter of recommendation, and the holders of fake IDs and other fake cards will be prosecuted under existing laws.
The airlines’ statement doesn’t mention anything about the travel permits of those whose registration cards are damaged or lost.
The political analysts have criticized that the military council’s actions are to arrest dissidents and use various means to coerce the people.
