More than 10,000 locals have been displaced by the military offensive in Kawkareik Township, Dooplaya District Brigade 6 in KNU-controlled Kawthoolei, the Karen National Union (KNU) announced.
On March 20, In Kawkareik Township, as the military council troops passed Taw Naw Hospital, a fighting broke out with the 18th Battalion under the 6th KNLA Brigade in the area with another heavy fighting on the morning of March 21.
During the battle, the military council attacked the battlefield and nearby villages, so more than 12,000 local civilians have fled the shelling, the KNU said.
Moreover, the IDPs from Lay Kaw Kaw, who have been taking refuge near Thaung Yin River on the Thai-Myanmar border, are suffering from heavy rains, and the tents and shelters were also damaged.
The KNU said about 300 new shelters are needed for Lay Kay Kaw refugees who lost their shelters due to heavy rain and strong wind.
