Mawlamyine, March (24)
The military council has invited both signatories and non-signatory ethnic armed groups to attend the 77th Armed Forces Day military parade, which will be held on March 27.
The chairman of the Military Council’s National Unity and Peace Coordination Committee has invited a total of two members, including the Chirman or Vice-Chairman and the General Secretary or a member of the Central Committee to attend the event looking forward to peace.
Of the 10 ceasefire groups, the Arakan State Liberation Party (ALP) is still in talks to attend military parade; if other groups attend, they will attend, ALP Joint-General Secretary Khaing Aung Soe Than said.
“We are still discussing here, I cannot say for sure. There are 10 groups that have signed the NCA. If most groups attend, we will attend,”he said.
It is not yet known whether the Kachin Independence Army (KIA), which has not signed the NCA, was invited to a military parade on Armed Forces Day. Colonel Naw Bu, the KIA’s information officer, told the Than Lwin Times that if invited, the KIO / KIA Central Committee would have to decide whether to attend or not.
Another group, the Karenni Progressive Party (KNPP), which has not yet signed the NCA, has said it will not attend the military council’s Armed Forces Day ceremony.
In addition, the Chin National Front (CNF) and the Karen National Union (KNU), which signed the NCA, made it clear over the months that they would not attend the military council’s ceremony and peace talks.
The Than Lwin Times contacted the New Mon State Party (NMSP) and the Pa-O National Liberation Organization (PNLO) about whether to attend the Tatmadaw Day ceremony or not but they did not respond.
