Mawlamyine, March (25)
Karen Human Rights Group (KHRG) called on the international community to take decisive action against any person, including the military council or their businesses, who is committing serious human rights abuses.
The Karen Human Rights Group (KHRG) issued a statement on March 24, the International Day of the Right to Truth, calling for an end to the military council’s human rights abuses.
Armed conflict has intensified in southeastern Myanmar since the military coup. Air strikes, heavy artillery fire, landmines and other terrorist attacks have claimed the lives of many local villagers, and the military council is deliberately using civilians as human shields, the Karen Human Rights Group (KHRG) said.
Moreover, the junta soldiers have been committing rape, abuse and torture, and also been destroying civilian property.
Because no action was taken against any crimes committed by the military councils, the victims and their families also suffered the consequences of the abuses. It needs to end impunity in order to help the victims, and justice is urgently needed, said the KHRG.
Fighting continues in southeastern Burma in the wake of the coup, during which, the military council has been carrying out a series of attacks targeting civilians.
