Mawlamyine, March 22

The Foodpanda riders, which provides food delivery services, from Mawlamyine have been on strike over wage cuts since March 19.

After one year of military coup, when there is a sharp increase in the prices of fuel oil and internet data, the Foodpanda delivery riders have refused to go to work because the company cut their wages without notice.

The riders used to get Ks 600 to 1,000 per kilometer of distance, but now they face hardships because the company gives only 300 and 400 kyats per route to them.

“We don’t get paid what we deserve. We have family issues. There are people who can’t afford to buy baby milk powder. Suppose we have to ride 10 routes a day – we have the cost of internet data and personal expenditure, and we have nothing left after all. That’s why we are asking what we deserve,” said one of the riders.

The Foodpanda company has forced the workers to return to work and threatened to hire new employees by March 22 if the workers failed to do it.

But the workers said they will continue to go on strike until their demands are met.

The riders have called on the customers not to order the food from the Foodpanda, to lower the App’s rating and not to apply for it when they recruit.
